Thermowood Board on Board Cladding
Thermowood is a very durable and cost effective alternative to Oak and Cedar cladding. It is a softwood which has been thermally enhanced to remove as much moisture as possible to leave the timber as stable as it possibly can be.
Thermowood is becoming more and more popular, especially with Siberian Larch being almost impossible to get hold of. One of the reasons for this is because it can take a paint really well because of how dry it is.
What Thermowood Board on Board cladding brings to the table is easy to see. It utilizes technology to bring out the very best in a traditional material to offer you value for money. To put this into context, the softwood used for Thermowood treatment may last 5-10 years externally, however, this process allows them a shelf life of over 30 when well maintained.
What Profiles do iWood Offer?
We offer two different profiles of Board on Board cladding. Both are made up of Planed All Round boards with the true difference being how they are fitted. The website displays them as different profiles to help make it easier to work out prices.
These profiles are designed to be fitted vertically with a waterproof breathable membrane in behind.
IWC28 - The more traditional and commonly seen Board on Board cladding in the fashion of Yorkshire boarding. The back boards are fitted 29mm apart with the top boards covering 20mm of each board underneath. When fixing make sure you don’t fix two of the boards with the same screw or nail, this helps to reducing splitting in the timber.
IWC29 - This profile provides a smaller 5mm gap between the rear boards (Or front if you reverse the fitting). The profile still allows for a 20mm overlap either side.
What Grade is Thermowood Supplied in?
Our Sawfalling grade of Thermowood is a fairly knotty timber, similar to the British timbers we supply. All the knots should be sound, however, we do recommend allowing for 10% waste in order to cut around any knots you don’t like the look of, the advantage of Board on Board cladding is you can choose the face you wish to display as they are fully reversable.
If there is anything you are unsure of please get in touch and we will help in any way we can.
