Douglas Fir Board on Board Cladding
iWood supplies 85/15 Clear & Better Grade Douglas Fir Board on Board Cladding, it is lightly coloured timber with pink hues and very few knots. This creates a very modern aesthetic that suits contemporary structures.
85/15 Clear Douglas Fir is a trade favorite and is used extensively for timber boarding applications, such as: floor boarding, internal and external cladding, partition boarding and so on. This versatility is down to its stability, durability, strength, reliability and cost. All pieces are kiln dried to make them even more stable, it also takes treatment well.
It is a class 3 durability product which gives a service life of at least 15 years. As a cladding however, in ideal conditions with regular maintenance and proper installation, Douglas Fir has been known to last all the way up to 50 years.
What are the Options for Douglas Fir Board on Board Cladding?
We can supply Douglas Fir in two profiles, IWC28 and IWC29.
IWC28 – This traditional profile is consists of a board behind and a board in front. The front board overlaps the board beneath by 20mm. When viewed from a distance, this creates a striped aesthetic and a natural shadow gap whilst completely covering the structure beneath, protecting it from the elements. You must face fix the boards that are on top, directly into the battens, ensuring not to go through the overlapped board beneath.
IWC29 – These boards are planed all round and designed to be face fixed with a 5mm gap between the back boards which is then covered by a smaller strip. It’s important to have sufficient waterproofing behind these boards.
Both profiles are vertical fitting only.
What is the Grade of Douglas Fir Supplied?
85/15 Clear & Better Grade is a very high grade mostly free of knots. Douglas Fir is imported in a mix of No.2 grade and No.3 grade, No.2 being exceptional and No.3 being very good. 85/15 refers to the percentage of each grade, 85% will be No.2 graded and 15% will be No.3 graded. It is common for this grade to be ordered in mixed lengths so that you can cut around any knots.
