Western Red Cedar Board on Board Cladding
Its very nature makes Western Red Cedar an ideal cladding material and that translates really well when it comes to Cedar Board on Board cladding. The stability of timber makes it ideal when there is no profile on the timber.
As with all cladding it is important to fit a breathable membrane in behind which is waterproof. It needs to be breathable to air can flow around the wood, this helps to keep the timber healthy and make sure it lasts for as long as possible.
Cedar Board on Board cladding is an exceptional product, looking equally at ease in contemporary or traditional settings. It’s also available in a wider range of lengths than some of our other timbers so lends itself to a vertical fit more easily.
What are the Options for Cedar Board on Board Cladding?
We supply two different profiles of board on board cladding, both of which are made up of just planed all round boards, the difference being the way they are fitted. We offer the two different profiles so the website can help you easily get a price for your coverage.
IWC28 – The traditional Yorkshire boarding option. With this profile, the back boards are fitted with a 29mm gap in between and then the top board overlaps the two behind it by 20mm each. When fitting the top board, it’s important to fit straight into the fixing batten behind, don’t go into two boards at the same time.
IWC29 - The back boards are fitted next to each other with a 5mm gap, with the top board placed over the gap. It is important for the top board to overlap each board behind it by 20mm.
It’s important to note that both of these profiles are designed to be vertical fit only, if they are fitted horizontally, it will cause water build up which could rot the timber.
What is the Grade of Cedar Supplied?
We supply Western Red Cedar as No.2 Clear and better only, this is the highest grade of Cedar imported, it’s important, when comparing prices to make sure you are not comparing this price to No.2 Clear and better 85 / 15 which is a lower grade with a higher knot content.
Our Cedar should have very few and sound knots. The lower 85/15 grade can contain knots and is not really suitable for set length cladding because most people will want to cut and fit around the knots in the wood.
