Product Description

FAS American Ash Skirting

American Ash or White Ash, known botanically as Fraxinus Americana is a popular joinery timber native to North America. Typically, due to its excellent shock resistance and flexibility, it is favoured for sports equipment and durable flooring. However, featuring an attractive grain and high density, American Ash is also popular for skirting.

For skirting, Janka hardness is also an important factor. This determines how well it will resist marks, dents and other impact damage as it’s a measure of how much force is required to embed a steel ball into it. American Ash has a Janka hardness of 1320 lbf very similar to American White Oak, making it very resistant to impact damage.

Key Features

  • Workability: American White Ash machines, glues and finishes well. It’s also uniquely well equipped for steam bending.
  • Luxury aesthetic: It's unique and eye-catching grain coupled with its lighter colours of creamy white to light brown are perfect for highlighting a space. Additionally, thanks to its large pore structure, American Ash accepts staining without losing the grain.
  • Stability: With excellent drying performance, American Ash will reach a moisture content that remains stable internally. Producing minimal movement.
  • Scuff Resistance: It’s naturally high shock resistance and Janka hardness of 1320 lbf bolster the timber against impacts ideal for skirting likely to get the occasional shoe scuff.

Application and Design Ideas

Sought after for its eye catching grain and light colours, American Ash is used in both traditional and contemporary settings. Commonly favoured for flooring due to its high shock resistance and fantastic stability, pairing skirting with matching flooring can create a striking aesthetic whilst being functionally robust.

We supply American White Ash Skirting in the following profiles:

IWS1 – Pencil Rounded: With a rounded edge this simple profile suits modern settings.

IWS2 – Torus: Characterized by a prominent rounded semi-circle that runs along the top of the board.

IWS3 – Ogee: With an elegant curve at the top of board, the ogee profile can add a sophisticated touch to the space.

IWS4 – Chamfered: This profile features a gentle taper/chamfer for a more simplistic look.

IWS5 – Lambs Tongue: A traditional profile ideal for classic spaces. From the top with a slight squared tongue which extends out with a rounded edge and then down to a sloped finish.

Sustainability

American Ash is very common across North America and adheres to strict harvesting methods which means felled trees will be replanted to maintain population levels.

Care and Maintenance

American Ash takes finishes well and is commonly treated to maintain its appearance and help emphasize its attractive grain. Be sure to check for damage and recoat with treatment as required. For maintenance, keep ontop of regular dusting and for more stubborn markings, use water and a mild wood safe cleaner.
